The NYC Traveler: Tips for Your Trips


~ Be brave, save money and be spontaneous: try public transportation when you travel. Car services are more and more available and convenient, but trains and buses will give you a local experience in a new city or country.

~USA residents should have a Real ID compliant form of identification to travel by air within the USA, to Mexico, Canada and some Caribbean islands. Some states are already compliant with their state IDs. The Homeland Security’s website has the latest list. If your state or territory is not compliant, it is advised to obtain a passport. 

~ Before you travel, always check with the US Department of Homeland Security's Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

~ Keep your passport current. The US Department of State has the information. Pay the extra for the passport card. Consider getting an enhanced driver's license if your state has it (this might also qualify as Real ID Compliant. Also, if your city has a local ID, get that too. You might get local discounts.

~ Travel tip: consider travel insurance. Each policy varies greatly and you may actually not need it but stuff has been known to happen.

~ Travel tip: if you rent a car, check out your own automobile insurance policy. You might be covered for rentals in certain situations.

~ If you want to drive often out of your own country, think about an international driver permit. Check this out for more information. The US Department of State has partnered with AAA for permits.

~ Tired of long lines at security checkpoints before you board? You can apply to be part of the TSA-Pre-Check program. This is the application.

~ Packing for a trip can be almost as stressful as booking a trip. Our cruise article has info good for any trip.

There's counter (quick) service, casual dining, fine/signature dining, and even a few rooftop experiences.  Universal's Mardi Gras International Flavors of Carnaval Universal's Mardi Gras YouTube Video It was quite a treat to experience festival at Universal Resort's Universal Studios. Like we do at Epcot, we got to eat and drink our way around the world throughout the theme park. Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) is a celebration that can begin as early as right after Three Kings Day (the twelfth day of Christmas, January 6) and ends on the day before Ash Wednesday (the date varies because Easter dates varies). It can start as late as the week before Ash Wednesday. Three Kings Day commemorates when the three wise men (kings) arrived in Bethlehem to give gifts to the newborn Baby Jesus.
